Is It Plane to See? When the wind whips up, what can you do? Well... what about piloting paper airplanes?! And when we say “piloting,” we mean make paper airplanes and then launch them for flight. There are a number of paper airplane designs for you to consider. We will leave it to you to figure out which ones you want to make. (A website we like is www.10paperairplanes.com.) This website is the place to find out how windy it is outside.
After you have carefully folded the paper to make your most-excellent airplanes, go outside where the wind awaits. Simply flying them is a lot of fun, but you can do some extra things to make it extra special.
Is it better to launch your plane into the wind, with the wind at your back, blowing from the left or blowing from the right? Experiment and figure out which way gives you the most success. (And maybe it depends on the kind of plane!) Which launch technique works best? Shooting it straight up? Launching it more level? You can time your flights. You can measure the distance, clock the flight time, and/or estimate how high it flies. Just let your imagination soar!
