Droughts

Droughts are harmful to crops because the crops do not get the amount of water they need to live and grow. It is importatnt for crops to grow because they feed grazing animals (like cows) - and people need cows for food and milk.

There are several different types of drought:

  • Meteorological Drought - When drought occurs because not enough rain has fallen.
  • Hydrological Drought - Shortages of water in rivers or reservoirs (wells).
  • Agricultural Drought - When the ground (soil) dries out so much that crops can't grow.

Droughts can also cause harm by creating wildfires. A wildfire is when leaves, grass or fallen branches catch on fire and spread without control.
